Island Government Establishes "Music Council".

The Government of Ibiza(Consell) has declared to establish a department of Music last week. This initiative, by president Xico Tarres, has as objective to regulate the Ibiza clubs and promote them officially during the Tourism and Holiday Fairs. Thus far the Consell never promoted the island's discotheques.

It uses to promote the UNESCO status of D'Alt Vila, its nature, its beaches and everything else Ibiza has to offer, except its clubs. Reason was that the Consell tried to change the island's image as a clubbing paradise and tended to show all its other resources. Like this it always seemed that the Consell was sort of hiding the island's clubbing activities officially.

Apparently a shift in policy has taken place. The Association of Club owners is delighted with the Consell's initiative and welcomes the official support. However it is not the intention that taxpayer's money is spent on active promotion of clubs. The step is more seen as a recognition of Ibiza's clubs and thus as an institutional support.

Happy New Year !!!

We wish all our readers a happy and prosperous 2008. What does time fly by...
Currently we are experiencing the 3 dark months on the island of Ibiza. The Christmas holiday almost came to an end, officially Sunday January 6, Tres Reyes, will be the last festive day until Easter. Thank God it is over; as usual I hate those Xmas-New Year holidays as I eat, drink and spend too much, you know. At least slowly the days will become longer again after passing the winter solstice on December 22,which is always the shortest day of the year.

Soon we will be starting preparing the Season again. Ok,during the coming 6 weeks we will still be on holiday, officially, but the behinds the screen preparations are about to start. I wish you all the best for 2008 and will see you soon.....

Great White Shark Spotted at Talamanca Beach.

Over the past few weeks several people have alerted the Authorities on Ibiza about the presence of a big,12 or 15 feet, creature swimming in the waters around Formentera. More recently people claim to have spotted the same at Talamanca Beach,Ibiza. Considering the fact that most people exaggerate about seize of observed sea inhabitants in general, experts thought they had to deal with a smaller size Nurse shark,a Moon fish or a Manta ray, which are totally inoffensive and have been spotted more in this region of the Mediterranean. However after the last few reports of which one of a local fisherman,in which the description of their observations was very precise, the Authorities haven't any doubts anymore. It concerns a great white shark in this case.

Usually great white sharks do not approach Spain's coasts but they do live in the waters around Sicily. In fact this most southern island of the Mediterranean is the only known spot where great whites are seen in this region of the world. Experts believe that this sharks must have swum all the way from the Sicily waters to ours. Considering that the great white is a long range swimmer this has just been a short trip for him. Until now no accidents or incidents were reported which is quiet logical considering the low season and temperatures,as no one goes for a swim.

Nonetheless the authorities have requested for caution to those fanatics that might consider a swim as well as to the local fishermen in order to avoid a confrontation with this very dangerous shark. The big question is why it came all the way from its habitat to the Ibiza waters.

Perhaps the change in climate could be a reason and are the Sicilian waters becoming to warm for the great whites and started it searching around for colder ones. The migratory behaviour of the great white remains a mystery to scientists though. Personally I think that as soon as the temperatures are rising again during spring the shark will disappear again. After all it is unthinkable that a great white shark would survive long in 25C waters!

Christmas Is Almost Here.

It has been a while since we have posted the last time on this blog. 2007 has been a very busy year for us and we have been doing very well. Lately we have been busy with closing the book year for Hotel Rocamar with all the administrative fuzz what is part there of. Also the undersigned has been very busy working on finishing his own blog as well as other people's web sites and blogs.

For the coming year we have big plans. The restaurant area is being renovated/refurbished at the moment and although we are not sure what we will do with that area be sure it will be something cool. Further it is our intention that this site will be very active and write about the latest developments in the Ibiza clubs or other leisure activities on the island.

Also soon we hope to implement a "ticket" office on this blog. So through the blog you will be able to buy your club tickets for Amnesia,Pacha,Privilege,Space,El Divino and other venues. You pay through your credit card. What is more convenient as buying your tickets through our site? Further we will allow therein interested people to show their advertisements on our blog at a small monthly fee. Contact us if interested as we foresee that traffic will be huge here.

Although as from Jan 2008 the "3 Dark Months" will begin here in which the island is cold and deserted we are sure that we will be very busy again preparing the next season. In a few days it will be Christmas again as you all know and we would like to take the opportunity to wish you all Merry Christmas and a happy 2008.

All the best to you all "Merry Christmas"

Peter / Andres.

Hotel Rocamar Reviewed.

Hotel Rocamar is a small holiday/business hotel situated in the area of Talamanca, the exclusive area of Ibiza town. It isn’t such a tourist factory as most hotels on the island of Ibiza. Quiet the contrary, it only has 16 rooms. The building originates from the 60’s. As far as known it has always been a hotel/pension. The current owners bought the old Hotel Rocamar back in 2001. Back in the 60’s the hotel already had a vast group of steady visitors, some of which have been coming there since the 60’s In 2004 it was decided to renovate place dramatically without having it losing its traditional characteristics.

Decided was for a modern, design interior and state of the art equipped rooms. As a result nowadays rooms are equipped with plasma screen TV, air conditioning, heating (yes for in the winter!) as well as a bunch of other small amenities at customer’s disposal. Further the whole place has wireless internet connection. Most clients of the hotel come there for the extremely laid down atmosphere, the very qualified and informal staff and off course to enjoy the sun and nightlife for which Ibiza is famous. Here the staff knows many of their customers by first name. Checking in isn’t a time consuming or aggravating process here. Known customers are just being saluted and handed the key; that’s all! Like people come “home”. Foreign languages aren’t an obstacle neither as staff speaks seven without any problems and is always happy to chitchat with the customers. What sort of people go to the Rocamar?

During summer season mostly holiday seekers. People that like the personalised treat that can be expected in a hotel with only 16 rooms. As said before: people aren’t numbers here.Clients love the quietness in the Rocamar and enjoy relaxing at the hotel’s terrace with perhaps the most beautiful views on the Ibiza Bay and the old town capital.During winter the hotel stays open, with only a 6 weeks break around the Christmas holidays.

During winter many business travellers frequent the hotel as well as some tourists that like the winter quietness on the island. Don’t forget, Ibiza, in summer, is a main party center with some of the most renowned discotheques in the world. Unfortunately not all of Rocamar’s 16 rooms are of the same seize. They are varying from rather small to average size room amongst hotels in Ibiza. The reason for this is the “old” building structure which doesn’t leave any space for alternatives. Sometimes this has lead to initial disappointments with clients although usually the excellent quality of the room interior makes up for this inconvenience. Further it is a petty that Rocamar doesn’t have a an active restaurant anymore at the moment. The area where the restaurant used to be is currently only used for the, included, breakfast.

Further due to lack of space within the property a swimming pool isn’t available neither although customers may use the pool of a neighbouring hotel. Compared to the earlier days nothing has changed with respect to Rocamar’s customers. The customers keep coming back, year after year and some of them were there in the late 60’s already.
